the season opener

t-minus 2 weeks until the market season kicks off. this year, i'm starting with the go west! craft fest in west philadelphia. i have been a vendor with them before, and i'm really looking forward to it. everyone is super nice and it's just an all-around chill vibe. this season with be the first where i'm strictly doing the paper thing... but i'm sure i'll post more about my other venture later. for now, i'm just in build up mode - making more products, getting the word out, etc. i'm in super grind-it-out mode, so hopefully all of my efforts will pay off!

if you're in philly, you should check it out!

vogue collections. 'nuff said.

the fall/winter 2009-2010 vogue collections is what started this whole thing. once i was finished looking at it, i couldn't throw it away, so i made envelopes out of it and used it as wrapping paper at xmas. the rest, as they say, is history.

to look at me, you wouldn't think i was into fashion. i'm a sporty girl who typically wears comfy, practical clothes... the fact that 90% of my closet is from the gap or h&m shouldn't be a shocker. on my body, i err to the side of practical. fashionista i am not, but i do like to look at fashion. i like to flip through the pages of vogue, elle, and harper's bazaar and admire the work that goes into the design of the garments and the styling of the models. truth be told, i only buy fashion magazines for the ads and spreads because they're the best part. (well, i also buy them for paper quality, but you know what i mean.)

it shouldn't be a shocker that i was drawn to vogue collections. the magazine (which is about as thick as a september vogue and 5x as expensive) only has pictures of runway shows from paris, milan, and new york fashion weeks. no interviews, no fluff: the focus is on the clothes and accessories. in flipping through, i get lost in a world that i don't participate in. i'll never be able to afford an alexander mcqueen dress or a pair of dior shoes (and most aren't my style anyway), but they're still fun to look at. it's like looking at art and getting sucked into a painting. i need it, i love it, i want more of it. too bad it only comes out twice per year...

this is a sample of a vogue collections accessories envelope. kind of perfect, no?

paper's first post!

welcome to the spankin' new paperishness blog! this will be a place for me to not only promote the shop, but also give some background to particular items and share my inspiration and vision with the world. i started paperishness as a fun way to recycle (any upcycle) a stack of old magazines, and i haven't looked back. i'm very proud of my little shop and hope to inspire others to follow their creative passions, too. that's all for now... hope you come back for more!
